Blog Profiles

Please access the Cybersmart Site link first and use the information and recommendations to guide your thinking. Consider how best to prepare and engage your learners. For navigation purposes the examples below have been organised and shared using individual Google Slide decks. Typically on a learning site, slides would be curated in a single deck. Each week new learning is located on the first slide so current learning displays when the published slide deck is clicked. A feature of Slides is the ability to generate a URL that publishes the slide deck to the web and displays in full screen on the iPad rather than embedding the slide deck. How to set up a Slide Deck

Learners are able to:

  • identify information about the blogger from their blog

  • look for clues to describe what they know about the blogger

  • make connections with relevant information on the blog to confirm their inferences

  • make and justifying inferences about the blogger using information from text, images, DLOs and comments on the blogs.

Blog Profiles

Begin with blogs from your school. Use profile images only and share links to the blogs for learners to access on their iPads.

  • Before opening the blog ask - do we know or recognise these learners? They may know the learners or at least be able to connect with information and clues from the images e.g. background, uniforms.

  • Explore the blog profiles. What do we know about this learner from their blog profile? What do we know about these learners from their blog posts?

  • Who is visiting their blog? Use the blog gadget s to find out more:

World Map, Google Earth Gadget, Hit Counter, Recent Comments

What can you infer about these learners based on the information they are sharing on their blogs? eg attributes, interests, strengths.

  • Identify opportunities to help learners begin to connect with and understand that the information we are sharing is public.

  • Anyone who visits our blog can see this information.

  • Identify opportunities to use cybersmart vocabulary e.g. Positive, thoughtful, helpful. When we share we are positive, thoughtful and helpful.

  • Identify multiple opportunities for learners to revisit and connect with these learning outcomes as part of your exisiting programmes of learning.

Explain Everything:

Learners select a favourite blog, take a screen shot and record themselves sharing what they have discovered about this learner from their blog.

  • Select a favourite blog post and tap the Blog Post Title so the post displays under the Blog Header

  • Take a screenshot of your favourite blog post including the Blog Header

  • Download the EE project and insert on a new slide.

  • Use the record tool to share what they have discovered about this learner. Slide one of the EE includes an example.

  • Revisit record tool and practising how to overwrite a recording.

  • Delete example and teacher soundbites from the project and upload as a video to Google Drive to share on class or individual blogs.
